In a radio interview in Alaska, Palin laughed as a political opponent, Senate President Lyda Green, was repeatedly attacked by interviewer DJ Bob Lester.

On Fox News Sunday, McCain touted Palin’s opposition to the bridge as a key reason for his selection of her as his vice president. He also claimed that Congress couldn’t remove the earmark for funding of the bridge:

But in August 2006, while running for governor, Palin said the bridge should be defended and accused “spinmeisters” of turning the project into something negative:

“We need to come to the defense of southeast Alaska when proposals are on the table like the bridge, and not allow the spinmeisters to turn this project or any other into something that’s so negative.”

The Alaskan Independence Party was formed with the ultimate goal of seceding from the U.S. Its current short-term goal is winning a vote on whether to secede from the United States.

According to the AIP’s Web site, the founder of the party Joe Volger said, “I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions” and “The problem with you John Birchers’ is that you are too damn liberal.”

On CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.,” Larry Kudlow asked Palin about the possibility of becoming McCain’s ticket mate. She said: “As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day."

Yahoo Sports reported Sarah Palin made an appearance for the puck-dropping ceremony at an October 11 hockey game in Philadelphia featuring the Flyers and the New York Rangers. She was booed when she first stepped onto the ice. You can watch the video here:

The Flyers’ decision has created a contentious backlash, and some strange bedfellows who oppose Palin’s appearance. Larry Brooks of the NY Post blasted the Flyers for not disclosing that Snider is a Republican donor and had hosted a Palin campaign event in September; he also wondered how the NHL felt about the Flyers and Rangers being used as political props in an election year.

Philadelphia Daily News columnist Will Bunch is trying to rally fans to turn their backs on Palin at the game. AJ Daulerio of Deadspin cuts to the core of the controversy, which is that if more attention is being given to the ceremonial face-off than the actual opening face-off between two NHL teams, then the publicity stunt has produced “a level of unnecessary tension overshadowing the game.”

Voters knew little about Palin when she was selected as John McCain’s running mate, and they knew even less about the Alaskan town where Palin spend most of her life and where she served as mayor for six years. On September 6, ABC News aired a profile of the town and it s residents.
