A woman walks over oil pipelines in Nigeria. In 2020 and 2021, the country had a combined total of 822 oils spills, resulting in 28,003 barrels spewing into the environment, according to Nigeria’s National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency. Locals have linked most of the spills to equipment failure.
