Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who has ordered probate judges to stop issuing marriage licenses, made news in 2003 when he refused to remove this monument of the Ten Commandments (which he had commissioned) from the Alabama Judicial Building in defiance of a federal court order.
