Syrian citizens casting votes in the 2014 presidential election in Damascus, Syria. President Bashar al-Assad took nearly 89 percent of the vote in 2014 and is expected to extend his grip on power in the 2021 presidential election. Foreign powers have largely deemed this election a farce.
