A picture of a Fulani caravan in December, 2009. Largely occupying west Africa, the Fulani are nomadic or semi-nomadic people whose primary occupation is raising livestock. They have been increasingly in conflict and competition with other groups over land and water access for their cattle. These conflicts are exacerbated by climate change, land degradation, and population growth.
